January Cometh

The month associated with the most promise and opportunity has come once again. January opens new doors, and challenges us to grow towards better versions of ourselves. It stares you down at the gym, and it beckons you into “Dry January” after a month (or more) of liquid frivolity. January has cometh.

This month I am excited to bring to the Old Town Playhouse a Los Angeles acting treat: the Sandbox. The Sandbox is an event, a community, and a charge to get together with like minded actors and stretch your acting skills with scenes and monologues performed in front of your peers. It’s a chance to workshop scenes you love, scenes which are new to you, and scenes that you or others have written and want to see put up to a performance. It is a takeaway from Hollywood that everyone can get in on, and one that helps create strong artist communities. Oh, and it’s a lot of fun!

We’re trying this out on a monthly basis for three months to see how it goes and how the community responds. In an ideal world, this is a bi-weekly event with a fairly consistent group of folks who grow together over time, and who love to play and try new things.

Since it’s January, it’s the perfect time to challenge yourself and try something new. Come join us in the Sandbox! For more details visit The Old Town Playhouse website.

2024: The Cascade

Niagara Falls

It begins with a drop of an idea. A sampling of a future you crave to unravel. A moment of deep breath to begin.

And the second you open the door, the cascade begins.

———

Artistry is never linear, and rarely exponential. It is chaotic, calm, and often feels like an unsupervised chemistry experiment. The basics may remain the same, but everything in between can change in a moment’s notice, and you must adapt. Artistry survives through trial and error, through joy and heartbreak, and endures the darkness which daily threatens it. And the resistance an artist faces is the daily mountain we must all climb. (We unknowingly signed up to be mountain climbers.) But this is what I face as an artist, and what you as a fellow creative (of your particular medium) are signing up for as well. 2024 was a big year. And there were many big years before it. Moving forward, let’s link arms and roll together, OK?

We’re about to embark on a new year with new challenges and opportunities for each of us, wherever you are in your creative journeys. My aim for this website is to write a couple times a month on the latest happenings, learnings, shows, musings, and anything else that comes across my plate. Be sure to check out Le Blog for those updates.

Above all, remember to keep showing up.
